The new big idea from many ISP's is to filter port 25. What this means is that they will only let outgoing SMTP email go through if it is using their email server.
If you use the email provided by your provider then this will not bother you. If you use webmail like yahoo or hotmail then this will not bother you. If you use an email service that allows you to use your own domain name in your email address like *****@elantragtclub.com then you may be in for a surprise in the near future when all of a sudden with no notice you will no longer be able to send email,
although you will still receive it. This is because the standard port for outgoing SMTP email is port 25 and the ISP's want you to have to use their domain name and run your mail through their servers. Some ISP's will let you unblock your account, but trying to get the call center moron in India
to forward your call to an actual employee of your ISP will be harder than understanding what he is saying. Needless to say that I have been battling
my ISP SBC for 4 days now since my email outbox is beginning to fill up and I am ready to drive down to their building in Richardson and strangle somebody!
